Fate of old grain plant may be known soon

In possibly four weeks time, the fate of the old grainery plant on a 20-acre site on Rock Island Road could be decided, said Pete Kampfer, executive director of the Greater Tucumcari Economic Develop ment Corp.

The development group’s request for proposals to turn the old plant into an ethanol plant has brought in several responses and the development group could decide on one of the applicants.

If developed as projected, the plant could add 30 new jobs to Tucumcari.

The rising cost of gasoline makes the prospect more attractive, Kampfer said.

Ethanol is a fuel made from grain.
