Isabel H. Valverde
Services: Visitation from 12:30 p.m.-1 p.m. today, immediately followed by a memorial mass at Santuario de San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin, S.W., Albuquerque.

Isabel H. Valverde, 76, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 in Albuquerque.

Mrs. Valverde was born in Anton Chico and was most recently a resident of Albuquerque. She was a member of the Catholic Church.

Mrs. Valverde was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Fidel Valverde; two sons, Ronald and Ricky; her parents, Manuel and Mela Segura; a sister, Rita Chavez; three brothers, Bonifacio, Fileberto and Joe D. Segura and a granddaughter, Priscilla Segura.

Survivors include five sons, Bernie (Patricia) Gutierrez, Donald (Antonia) Segura, Raymond (Rosa) Valverde, Bobby Valverde and Vincent (Geraldine) Valverde; two daughters, Rita (Danny) Baldonado and Mary Ellen (George) Lovato; three brothers, Chris (Marcia) Segura , Victor (Lucy) Segura and Mingo (Susan) Segura; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Valverde’s son, Bernie Gutierrez, led the recitation of the rosary on Friday evening and Anthony Romero will officiate the mass today.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Arrangements are by Garbaldon Mortuary of Albuquerque.

Nellie Johnston
Services: Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Dunn Memorial Chapel, Tucumcari.

Nellie Johnston, 96, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, in Grants.
Mrs. Johnston was born Nov. 11, 1909 in Randlett, Okla. She was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Tucumcari. She moved several years ago to Grants to be closeto her daughter because of failing health.

Before moving to Grants, Mrs. Johnston had been an active member of the Center Street United Methodist Church in Tucumcari.

 Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her husband, Milton S. Johnston, and a daughter, Lanella Roberts.
Survivors include Melva Daughterty of Thoreau and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnston’s grandson, Stanley Daugherty, will officiate services.

Burial will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dean Roberts, Kenny Roberts, Steve Dietz, Stan Daugherty, Steve Daugherty and Scott Daugherty will act as pall bearers.

Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. 
James Hulen Sewell
Services: Have been held.

James Hulen Sewell, 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006 at his residence near Tucumcari.

Mr. Sewell was born May 14, 1932 outside of San Jon. He attended the San Jon School, where he played baseball and developed a lifelong love of the game.

From 1951 to 1955, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Sewell was the owner and operator of the Sewell Machine Shop in Tucumcari.

He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Tucumcari. He enjoyed bluegrass music.

Surviving Mr. Sewell are his wife, Wynell; two daughters, Derri (Danny) Pender and Debbie (Will) of of Tucumcari; three sons, Jimmy Sewell and Jerry Sewell, both of Tucumcari, and Johnny (Brenda) Sewell of Tulahoma, Tenn.; two brothers, Gene and Dariel; two sisters, Pat Monk and Mary Helen Carter; nine grandchildren, Sherri Pender, Jessica Pender, Chelsea and Jalen Sewell, Jason Sewell, John Sewell and Chatton, Kyle and Adam Sims; and one great-grandson, Julian Sewell.

Grover Garrett officiated services.
Burial followed at Tucumcari Memorial Cemetery.
