Rattlers hope for win on the road

The Tucumcari Rattlers have a road test today against Albuquerque Academy’s Chargers.

The 2A Rattlers will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday against the Class 3A Chargers at the Richard Harper field in Albuquerque.

The Rattlers go into Saturday’s game 0-3 after a loss to the Estancia Bears in overtime on Sept. 9.

Coach Dub Smith said, “Albuquerque Academy is a real good ball club. They have a lot of speed and are comparable to St. Michael’s of Santa Fe and Capital. Our young men are going to step up. They are going to play hard and take it up a notch.”

Smith added “Once our injured players get back we are going to have a great ball club. These games we have been playing have been preparing us for the next level which is district games and playoffs.”

The Chargers come into the match-up 1-1 after a loss to Piedra Vista on Sept. 9.

Chargers coach Kevin Carroll said, “We know that Tucumcari is a good team. They are getting better every week. We are focus on blocking and tackling in this upcoming game and also keep an eye out for No. 13 (Brian Lopez).”

Junior High/JV Update
The Tucumcari Rattler Junior High football team trounced the West Las Vegas Dons.
The Rattlers upset the Dons 54-0 on Thursday night in Tucumcari.

Coach Eddie Encinas said, “It was a real good game. The team’s efforts were outstanding. Our linemen are getting better and better.”

Next week, Encinas said,“We are looking forward to playing Santa Rosa. They are a district opponent and they are a real good team.”

The junior high’s next game will be 4:30 p.m. on Thursday against Santa Rosa at Tucumcari.

The Junior varsity’s next game will be 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 against Robertson at Las Vegas.
