The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers lost to the Clayton Lady Yellow Jackets on Thursday night and start the district playoffs next week.

Despite the loss (16-25, 23-25, 25-18 and 16-25) the Lady Rattlers played well. Seniors Cori Wilson and T’Shawna Span had several great blocks and aces throughout the game. Senior Tawni Davis also came up with some good digs and senior Samantha Montano kept the ball in play in several sets with diving, running saves.

The loss puts the Lady Rattlers in a must-win match-up with longtime rivals, the Santa Rosa Lady Lions.

Rattlers senior Samantha Montano said, “Santa Rosa has nothing to lose. They need a win for their season to continue, the same as us.”

Coach Kaylene Davis said, “Our game against Santa Rosa is huge. We need a win for our season to keep going. We have beat them twice before but are not taking this game lightly. We both have a lot riding on this game and we expect them to put up a good fight.”

If they beat Santa Rosa, the Lady Rattlers will travel to Clayton to face the Lady Yellow Jackets once more.

The Lady Rattlers will play at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against Santa Rosa at Tucumcari.
