District title up for grabs

The district 2-2A football championship is set.
The (4-5) Tucumcari Rattlers will face off against the (9-0) Santa Rosa Lions.
The game will be at 7 p.m. at Santa Rosa.
Coach Dub Smith said, “This is a longtime rivalry — the I-40 shoot out. Since I have been coach, I have always looked forward to playing the Lions. There will be a lot of hard hitting during the game, but both teams always show great sportsmanship.”
The Rattlers won Friday night’s game 15-12 against the Texico Wolverines in Texico with a 22-yard field goal in overtime. The Rattlers clinched a playoff berth and can do no worse than the district’s runnerup spot.
The Lions are undefeated this season. They have had blowout victories for the past five games, their last being 54-0 over Mora Saturday.
The New Mexico Activities Association Director of Football Mario Martinez said, “This will be an exciting play off this year. For the First Time in 2A history there will be 12 teams in the playoff seeding. The teams will be seeded Saturday night at 7 p.m.”
l With a win Friday night Tucumcari will be seeded above Santa Rosa.
l No teams from the same district will play each other in the first round.
l The top four teams will get a first round bye.
l First round: Seeds 5-12 will play, eliminating four teams — No. 5 hosts No. 12, No. 6 hosts No. 11, No. 7 hosts No. 10 and No. 8 hosts No. 9.
