Rattlers, Cowgirls take third in Route 66

The Elida Tigers swept Tucumcari Rattlers Route 66 Classic basketball tournament taking first place in the boys and girls brackets.

“We really enjoyed this tournament and hope they invite us again next year,” said House coach Aprile Lee. “This gave our girls a great opportunity to play against some good teams and help us develop our game and prepare for district.”

The Lady Rattlers defeated the Floyd Broncos to win the consolidation placing.

Sophomore forward Kadi Powers: 33 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

The House Lady Cowgirls upset the Estancia Bears 49-43 to win third place in the ladies bracket of the tournament.

Senior point guard Sara Lee: 87 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Rattlers defeated the Des Moines Demons 84-79 to take third place in the mens bracket.
“This tournament helped our ball club a lot. It will go along way to help us with our conditioning and get us ready for the rest of the season,” said Coach John Span. “During this tournament we had players really step up. I have been pushing a lot of the younger players to make plays during the game and they did. I want to get everyone on the team court time and get them experienced because you never know who you will have out on the court later in the year.”

The House Cowboys and Cowgirls next game is Dec. 30 against the Elida Tigers.
The Rattlers next game is 4 p.m., Dec. 29 against the Raton Tigers at Tucumcari.
