John Cortes Banks, 88, of Clovis, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at his home in Clovis.
He was born May 25, 1918 to Guy Cortes and Nellie Jones Banks in Siloam Springs, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant; was employed as a salesman for Coca-Cola; Budweiser and Richard Distributing. He also was a member of the Men’s Bible Class; VFW Post 3280; Eagles; and the Clovis/Portales Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Shannon of Farmington, Ark; a step daughter, Laney Chance of Roswell, N.M.; a sister, Betty Banks of Fayetteville, Ark.; five grandchildren, John Patrick Banks, Ryan Banks, Dori Banks, Elizabeth Shannon and Allen Shannon; two great-grandchildren; and his ex-wife and best friend, Marguerite Banks of Farmington, Ark. He is preceded in death by a son, John Lee Banks.
W. Charles Green will officate the services and burial will be in Farmington, Ark.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Terry Ilene Martinez, 51, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in Albuquerque following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Albuquerque on Oct. 20, 1955. She later moved to Tucumcari, where she attended Tucumcari High School with the graduating class of 19 74.
She is survived by her mother and step father, Mary and Don Clark of Tucumcari and Grants, her father and step mother, Clyde and Dorothy Winders of Amarillo, Texas, one sister, Elaine (Frank) Moya and their son, , Christopher, of Albuquerque, two brothers, Joe Toney of Grants and his children, Joseph and Amanda Toney of Tucson, Ariz., and John (Rachel) Toney and their children, Brian and Tonya, of Clovis, N.M., one step brother, Phil Clark of Tucumcari, and two step sisters, Pam Clark of Tucumcari and Diana Finley of Broken Bow, Okla., a close friend and niece, Georigiana Orona and family of Los Lunas, N.M.
She is also survived by and her husband, Rick Rodgers, and four children, a daughter, Tammy, and three sons, Ricky Christopher and Shayna of Tuttle, Okla., Curtis Welch of Tucumcari and his son Trace of Las Vegas, Nev., and Michael Martinez and his wife Monica of Albuqueque, and their daughter, Regina Grajeda.
A memorial services honoring her was held on Dec. 27, 2006 in the Moya home where had resided with her sister for the past two years. Officiating at the service was Baptist minister Claude Cone of Albuquerque.
In rememberance of Terry Martinez, friends and family members are welcome to make donations to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Associations.
Arrangements were by Direct Funeral Services of Albuquerque.
