Dionicio A. Martinez, 76, a resident of Tucumcari, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas.
He was born in La Canada Ancha on July 17, 1930 to the late Gonzalo Martinez and Aurelia Baca.
He was united in marriage to Wanda A. Andrews on Oct. 18, 1992 in Tucumcari.
Mr. Martinez was an expert mechanic and worked for the Owens Wrecking Co. and worked as a volunteer fire fighter for the Tucumcari Fire Department for many years. He also loved to fish.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Aurelia Martinez, a grandson, Mario Jesus Martinez, and two sisters, Mary Romero and Andrellita Lucero.
He is survived by: his wife, Wanda A. Martinez of Tucumcari; mother of his children, Priscilla Martinez of Wagon Mound; children, Johnny Martinez and Gloria (Bob) Martinez of Las Vegas, Gonzalo (Liz) Martinez of Leadville, Colo., Anthony Martinez of Wagon Mound, Dennis Martinez of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Faustina Montoya and Eufemia Sandoval both of Las Vegas; a special cousin, Eufemia Armijo of Tucumcari; and numerous nieces, nephews, and step-children.
Steven Imbarrato will officiate at the services with burial following at the Santa Clara Cemetery. The casket bearers will be Juanito Martinez, Teles Romero Jr., Christopher Montoya, Bob Martinez, Johnny Ray Chavez, and Ted Lovato. Serving as honorary bearers will be the rest of his grandchildren and step-children.
Arrangements are by Rogers Mortuary of Las Vegas.
