Rattlers fall prey to Santa Rosa Lions

The Rattlers start off district play down one, with dual losses in the Lion’s Den.

The Lady Rattlers lost 66-35 to the Lady Lions and the Rattlers fell 78-53 to the Lions Tuesday night at Santa Rosa.
The Lady Lions were never challenged after a 16-2 first period and put the game away with a 23-point third quarter.

The Lady Rattlers kept pace with the Lady Lions in the second and third quarter but were blown out in the first and final period.

In the boys game, the Lions outscored the Rattlers 39-20 in the second and third quarters.

The Rattlers trailed early in the first period and the Lions had an 9-0 lead before they got on the board with a three point play by senior Josh Villegas. They trailed 15-18 at the end of the first period, but that was the closest the Rattlers got to the Lions.

Villegas had 23 points, Drew White scored 12 and Andrez Apodaca added 11.

The Lions clinched their first district win with the combined efforts of seniors Daniel Zamora with 30 points and Juan Barela with 13 points. Junior Jesus Roybal had 12 points and sophomore Jeff Reeves totaled 13 points and 5 steals.

The Rattlers’ next game is 4:30 p.m. Friday against Texico at Tucumcari.
