The Tucumcari Fire Department’s administration office will be officially operating out of a new office building in July, said Fire Chief Mike Cherry.
The new location will be at 207 East Center Street. The building has undergone renovations, has been brought up to code and is awaiting a final inspection by the New Mexico Fire Marshal, said Cherry.
“There are a few odds and ends that still need to be taken care of before we move in, such as telephone and computer lines,” said Cherry.
The old administration office at 123 N. Adams Street will become a training facility for the volunteer fire department, he said. A computer will be setup in the office and used to interactively train fire fighters on basic and advanced techniques, said Cherry.
“We will be a lot more productive in the new office,” said Cherry. “We will be in good proximity to the police department and City Hall and that will help us be more efficient. “
The new office is across the street from the Tucumcari Police Department and on the same block as City Hall.
Costs for renovation work comes from the department’s yearly operational budget from the state fire marshal, Cherry said.
“Our budget could see a 33 percent increase with our move to the new building and if we receive a good insurance office rating,” Cherry said.
