Services: 2 p.m. (CST), on Friday a memorial service will be held at the Nara Visa Community Center.
John “Jay” Nials, 75, died Sunday, March 4, 2007, in Hartley County, Texas.
Mr. Nials was born Oct. 3, 1931 near Hudson, N.M. to John Linden and Ethel Laurinda (Payton) Nials. He grew up near Logan.
Mr. Nails started to work at the age of 11on a ranch south of Tucumcari. He continued to do ranch work for the rest of his life. He started working for the Roy Coots Ranch in 1959 and worked for them until he bought part of the ranch and leased a large part of the rest of it.
He married Ada L Evans on Feb. 14, 1989. At the time of his death, he and his wife were still running the ranch. Mr. Nials was one of the last real cattlemen of our time, his family said.
Survivors are his wife, Ada Nials of Nara Visa, nephews Ray and Joanne Nials of Tucumcari, Marvin and Lucy Nials of Tucumcari, Fred Nials of Denver, Steven Aulds of Athens, Texas, nieces, Dorothy and Mike Racumas of Overland, Kan., Collene and Jerry Derrick, Canyon of Texas, Betty and John Behrenet of Albuquerque, Evelyn and Loyd Waite, Rolla, Mo., Edna Faye and George Booker of Albuquerque and great-nephews, four great-nieces and six stepchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, W. A. “Bink” Nials and Henry Nials, sisters, Thelma Nials and Velma Aulds and one nephew, Roy Nials.
Tom Cole will officiate at the service.
