Rattlers place two teams in top 10 at won baseball invite

The Rattlers finished second and seventh and two players were chosen as All Tournament Saturday at their 2007 baseball invite.

Rattlers Jakus Martinez was chosen as All tournament for the junior varsity and Drew white was chosen as All Tournament Varsity.

The Tucumcari Rattlers varsity team finished in second place Saturday during their baseball tournament. The Rattlers lost to Mont Del Sol Dragons 16-4.

“They hit consistently in every inning throughout the game, while we hit it in spurts.” said Coach Tony Alarcon. “The first two games we played we were able to hit the ball through the whole line up. We are 2-2 at the moment and I am pleased with their play overall.”

The Rattlers beat the East Mountain High Timberwolves 12-1 Friday afternoon. In that game Rattlers senior Matt Smith only gave up one run and two hits. The Rattlers beat the Mora Rangers 10-0 Saturday to advance to the championship game with Mont Del Sol. Against the Rangers Rattlers sophomore C.J. Newman pitched a shut out and only gave up one hit.

“We have a good core group they just need to work out those early season flaws,” said assistant coach Mike Russell.

The Rattlers junior varsity team finished in seventh place with a 15-5 win over the San Jon Coyotes. The junior Rattlers lost to the Portales Jv in the first round of the tournament and then lost 8-1 to the Clayton Yellow Jackets Saturday.

The Rattlers next game is 9 a.m., Thursday at the Floyd tournament at Floyd.
