Birthday for six …
Kristen R. Gonzales will be celebrating her 6th birthday today with family and friends. Her birth date is March 27. Her parents are Liz Esquebil and Daniel Gonzales and her brother is Cameron Montano, 13. Kristen’s grandparents are Eloy and Madeline Esquibel and Danny and Susan Gonzales/

Ambassador Pete …
Nickolaus Wiegel, a sophomore, at New Mexico State University was named a Crimson Scholar Ambassador by NMSU’s Honors College.
Wiegel is one of the first students to be involved in the new program. Ambassadors assist with recruitment activities, serve as mentors for younger students and keeps students apprised of opportunities available in the program, according to a university release.
To be eligible for the program students must, among other things, have a minimum 3.5 GPA and show evidence of leadership and community service. Wiegel is a 2005 graduate of Tucumcari High School.
News of Wiegel made the airwaves and the newsstands last year when the university brought back its mascot and selected Wiegel to be “Pistol Pete.”

Atrusa’s new officers…
Altrusa International of Tucumcari elected the following slate of officers for 2007-2008: President, Barbara Cherry, below; first vice president, Relissa Nials; second vice president,
Deb Sloan; treasurer, Christy Benavidez; recording secretary, Nancy McNabb, corresponding secretary, Tammy Hall. Past president is Susan Ragland and the directors are Sylvia Wampler for 2006-2008 and Glenda Reid for 2007-2009.

Getting her passport…
Felicia Lopez, 14, a student at Tucumcari Middle School, will be going to Europe in October as a People to People student leader. Lopez was accepted in a People to People World Leadership Forum in London, Brussels and Paris. Students in the program must meet certain academic and leadership requirements.
Felicia is the daughter of Ricky and Peggy Lopez. Her grandparents are Blas and Nellie Lopez and Levi and Maria Montano, all of Tucumcari. She has two brothers Jonathon, 16, and Jeremy, 11.
