THS wins first game vs. Texico

The Rattlers won the first game of the varsity double header 10-5 against Texico on Monday.

The second game, with the Rattlers on top, 4-2, was called because of lightning. It will resume at 5 p.m. today at the bottom of the second inning.

“Our defense improved greatly, along with key hits,” said Rattler coach Tony Alarcon. “It was a crucial win against a strong district contender.”

In the first game C.J. Newman had seven strikeouts, Andrez Apodaca went 2-for-4 for two singles, Drew White hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning and Andre DeBord had a strong defensive game at third base.

Future county matchups are:
• The Rattlers play a varsity double header at 4 p.m. Tuesday vs Clayton at Tucumcari.
•  The San Jon Coyotes play varsity double header at 3 p.m. Thursday vs. Grady at San Jon.

Rattler golf
The Rattlers golf team tied for 12th Monday at the Leroy Gooch High School Invitational in Ruidoso, competing against 30 other New Mexico teams in the first round.
