Teen’s 14…
Chris Harmon of Tucumcari is celebrating his 14th birthday on Tuesday. But, he’ll be joining friends and family today for the celebration at the Pizza Hut. Chris is the son of Ross Harmon and Shana Hall.

Birthday for matriarch…
Festivities for Marcelina Maestas, who will be celebrating her 90th birthday, began this morning with a mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. The matriarch of the Maestas clan, she will be joined by dozens of family members for a luncheon and dancing at the Del Norte Center.

Paris hits big No. 5…
Jantzen Paris celebrated his big 5 birthday on March 27 with family and friends in Logan. Jantzen loves superheroes and Transformers. He also loves taking care of his baby sister, Abby Paris. Jantzen is the son of Rodney and Linnea Paris of Logan. His grandparents are Nathan and Becky Wallace of San Jon, Duel and Dianne Paris of Logan and Bobby and Nancy Dugger of Logan. His great-grandparents are Jody and Patsy Clavel of Roy, Roberta Jones of Carlsbad, Earline Paris of Logan, Mayme Clements of Tucumcari and Eddy and Betty Dugger of Amarillo.

Reaching hall of fame …
Middle school and high school anti-tobacco advocates – including two from Tucumcari – received “Youth Kicking Tobacco’s Butt Youth Advocate of the Year” awards on April 14 at the Third Annual Fame & Shame Awards. Middle school Advocates of the Year were Sharayah Sisneros of Tucumcari and Maria Gomez of Hatch. Telling others about the dangers of tobacco is “gaining momentum, not only with students in their communities, but also with their peers,” said Kesi Perea, a manager of Youth Link for N.M. Voices for Children. Also nominated was Nichole Garcia of Tucumcari.
