The Tucumcari Rattlers are the Region A/AA Champions and are state bound.

Friday the Rattlers defeated Mesa Vista and Pecos at Pecos to take the regional title.

“This is a sweet victory for the team,” said coach Tony Alarcon. “We had to overcome a lot this season with injuries and adversities. We have bounced back through the season and the team put together five straight wins going into the state tournament. The coaching staff is very proud of the players performance in the past weeks.”

The Rattlers advance to state baseball in Albuquerque after winning two games Friday in Pecos.

The Rattlers won the first game Friday against the Mesa Vista Trojans 14-6 at Pecos and won the second game against the Pecos Panthers 12-6. In the second game, C.J. Newman struck out 13 batters and Drew White had a home run.

“It feels good to win because this will be my first time to go to state for baseball,” said Adrian Prieto. “We could not take the teams we played in regionals lightly and we just needed to handle business and we did.”
