The Tucumcari Rattlers will meet the Lordsburg Mavericks today in the first round of the 2007 AA State Tournament.
The Rattlers seniors are determined to bring home a state title. The Rattlers have not advanced beyond the first round in the last four years.
“We got the route we want in the tournament,” said Drew White. “I think we can beat Lordsburg and then Santa Rosa or Texico. I’d like to see some more pitching time but we will see what happens.”
“I feel really confident going into the tournament because of the team I am playing with,” said Matt Garcia. “As seniors we want to leave Tucumcari winning and with great last run, one to remember.”
“We have a team that can beat anybody as long as we play our game,” said Jarod Rael. “I’ve gone twice to state in the past four years and to come back with the state trophy would mean a lot.”
“We are not taking anyone lightly,” said Anas Badshah. “We are going to have to give 100 percent in order to win. I was disappointed that we didn’t get the state title in football. I quit the golf team so I could work harder in baseball and trying to win a state title.”
The Rattlers play at 3 p.m. today against the Mavericks at the Eldorado High School.
With a win, the Rattlers next game will be at 7 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Santa Rosa vs Texico at Los Lunas High.
