Championship Basketball Academy of Albuquerque will host a summer basketball camp June 4-7 in Tucumcari at the Tucumcari High School gym.
“The purpose of this camp is to provide an encouraging, upbeat camp for kids,” said Scott Peterson head coach of the Championship Basketball Academy. “I wanted to have a camp in Tucumcari so that kids in the surrounding area could attend a great camp closer to home instead of driving three-to-five hours to a camp.”
Peterson, an assistant coach for the University of New Mexico Lobos basketball team, will be the head coach at the camp.
Peterson was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs in the 2002-003 season in which the Spurs won the NBA title.
Peterson worked one-on-one with the Rattler girls and boys basketball players last year. At the December camp they worked on defensive and offensive drills, dribbling, passing and other skills.
“The kids in Tucumcari and the surrounding communities have a passion for basketball,” he said. “I look forward to working with players I worked with last year and having the opportunity to work with new players to help develop their skills.”
Peterson will be one of the coaches at the camp and will have assistant coaches there many of which are former and current college basketball player.
“This will be a well structured camp for basketball players of all skill levels,” said Peterson. “High school players looking to take their game to the next level or elementary players just getting into the game. This will be a good chance for them to to get and take advantage of professional coaching.”
The cost of the camp is $139 for one child and $99 for each additional child in the same family.
