Sandersons are golden…
Ken and Laverne Sanderson are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and hope you’ll share in their celebration at the Tucumcari Convention Center.
Laverne Mariner, a 1958 Tucumcari High School graduate, and Sanderson, a 1950 graduate, were married May 25, 1957.
They lived most of their married life in Montana, where they raised four children. Sanderson taught high school English for 25 years and then worked 13 years for Montana Power. In 2004, the Sandersons returned to Tucumcari. You can congratulate them between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., June 9 at the Nara Visa Room at the center.

She’s got ‘star’ power…
Estella “Star” Cordova, Jr. celebrated her second birthday on May 25. Star is the daughter of Delia Jaynes and Joseph Cordova. Her grandparents are Mary Cordova and Scot and Michelle Jaynes, great-grandparents are Gary and Nancy Jaynes and Eddie and Sandie Shipley and great-great grandmothers are Maureen Jaynes and Maxine Aitken. Lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins, too.

Kyle earns national nod…
Kyle Dougherty, 11, has been named a United States National Award Winner in science, the academy announced. It recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Kyle, who will be going into the seventh grade next year at Tucumcari Middle School, was nominated by teacher Suzy McKinney. The selection criteria includes academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership, responsibility, motivation to learn and improve, and cooperative spirit and dependability.
Kyle is the son of Clint and Christine Dougherty of Tucumcari. His grandparents are George and Sue Ruoff of Albuquerque and Nola Hendrickson of Tucumcari.

Brotherly birthdays…
Brothers, Tres and Noah Gallegos, will be sharing their birthdays with friends and relatives today at a Sponge Bob party. Tres will be five on June 4 and Noah was three on June 1. They are the sons of Phil and Jennifer Gallegos of Tucumcari Their great-grandparents are Helen Gower of Dallas and Tara and Matthew Gower of Dublin, Texas.
