The city of Tucumcari received a $12,600 grant to aid in the beautification of Tucumcari.
The grant is made possible by the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful program started by the New Mexico Tourism Department.
“It is a yearly competitive grant based on population,” said Community Development project coordinator, Yvette Fazekas. “We compete with towns with a similar population year-round for the money.”
The money will be used to fund the services and equipment needed to help with the beautification of Tucumcari.
Here’s how it will be spent:
• $6,300 will go to the employment of youth groups to clean public right of ways such as highways and alleyways.
• $3,000 will go towards the purchasing of equipment such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, shovels and rakes.
• $750 will go to the promotion of the “Keep Tucumcari Beautiful” project such as T-shirts, water bottles and pencils.
• $2,500 will go towards delegates attending the annual Beautification Conference held in Washington, D.C. in December.
New Mexico Clean and Beautiful, a program of the state’s Tourism Department, has awarded $604,700 to 57 municipal, county and tribal governments in New Mexico, according to a press release from the New Mexico Tourism Department. The awards are given so they can do everything possible to keep New Mexico a ‘Land of Enchantment,’” the release said.
