06-202007: Fishing Report

This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Conchas Lake
Fishing for walleye was fair for anglers using deep diving crank baits, grubs and bottom bouncer/night crawler rigs. Most of the walleye were taken at depths of 20-to-30 feet. Fishing for bluegill was very good for anglers using small wet flies, poppers, worms and small jigs. Fishing for crappie was slow but a few taken by anglers using minnows and jigs. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was fair-to-good using top water lures, tubes, salt craws, baby brush hogs and jerk baits. Fishing for white bass was fair for anglers using crank baits, grubs and spinners. Fishing for catfish was fair using liver, night crawlers and cut bait.

Ute Lake
Fishing was good using leeches, bottom bouncer/night crawler rigs and deep diving crank baits for walleye. Most of the fish taken were at depths of 23-to-35 feet. Fishing was very good using worms and minnows for bluegill. Fishing was fair-to-good using spinner baits, jerk baits, top water lures and tubes for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using liver, night crawlers and dough baits for catfish. Fishing was good using top water lures, crank baits, spinners and minnows for white bass. Fishing for crappie has slowed.

Chatches of the week
Reported at Ute Lake were; On June 15, Kit Preston of Amarillo caught a 6.84-pound walleye; he was using a leech; on June 16, Donny Allison of Amarillo caught a 7.31-pound largemouth bass; and on June 17, Lance Bradley of Farwell , Texas, caught a 4.66-pound largemouth bass. He was using a white spinner bait.
