Arya arrives …
Arya Elizabeth Bogart arrived on June 6, 2007. Arya weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and is a “star spangled baby,” according to her outfit. She’s the daughter of Tiffany Evans and Roy Bogart of Tucumcari. Her grandparents are Lynda Sills of Tucumcari, Robert Evans of Nara Visa and Leroy and Christi Bogart of Dalhart, Texas. Her great-grandparents are Ada Nials of Nara Visa and Roy Bogart, Jr. of Dalhart.
New assistant super …
Dennis Roch joined Tucumcari Public Schools as its assistant superintendent on July 2.
Roch comes from Texico, where he taught high school for nine years.
He serves on the Public Education Commission, a post he has held since his election in 2004. As a commissioner, Roch represents Quay, Curry, Roosevelt, Lea and Eddy counties.
An English major, Roch earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University at Portales and his graduate degree from George Mason University in Virginia.
Other new appointments include Michelle Potter of Truth or Consequences, who was named THS’s new principal, and Gerald Filpi of Logan, who was named assistant principal.
At the Tucumcari Elementary School, Theresa Stephenson, formerly a special education teacher in Logan, was named principal.
All the new hires have a one-year contract and will begin the school year later this month, Roch said.
Star party tonight…
Between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the Visitor’s Center at Conchas Lake there will be a “Reach for the Stars.” A park ranger will help you explore the night sky with a telescope. Observers will look at stars and constellations if there’s a clear sky. If cloudy, other fun activities, including free candy for trivia answers, will be available Cost: Park entrance fee. Second case of Hantavirus
The New Mexico Department of Health announced this week that an 18-year-old man from neighboring San Miguel County is hospitalized at University Hospital with the state’s second case of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome this year, according to a press release.
Most exposures to Hantavirus occur in or around people’s homes, especially when cleaning out enclosed areas that have lots of mouse droppings, the release said.
