The Tucumcari Police Department has an acting police chief who was appointed by city manager John Sutherland.
On Tuesday, Lt. Deputy Chief Ron Haley was named as acting police chief for the City of Tucumcari until the position can be filled full time, said Sutherland. “We have had people inquire about the positions despite not officially advertising for it,” said Sutherland.
“It is a good sign that people are inquiring about the position,” said Sutherland. “It took eight months and considerable effort to fill the position last time and having immediate interest could bode well for the city.”
Haley fills the post that was left vacant by Chief Larry Ham who served as Tucumcari’s chief of police from June of 2005 through July 2007. Last week, Ham cited personal reasons for resigning and thanked the men and women that served with him in the department.
