A Rattler reunion is like a large Cheers party televised on a wide screen. And at any moment you expect to hear these lyrics in the background:
Be glad there’s one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name
After the warm-up at last night’s mixer, registration was steady throughout the morning and afternoon with Norma Jean Crellin, president of the Tucumcari Alumni Association, seemingly there to greet each and every Rattler. And she does know them each by their name.
This year’s host is the Class of 1977 and the Class of 1957 is holding its 50th gathering.
The 50th is a special reunion recalled Shirley McAda Scott, David Scott and Charlene Long Bruhn, all of the class of 1954.
“It was the best,’ said Shirley Scott.
“We have 54 on the float,” Bruhn said.
At this year’s 50th, there were special favors, the introduction of a Web site (www.tucumcarirattlers1957.com) special T-shirts and a CD with their yearbook.
“I enjoy coming back and seeing everyone,” said Don Eggert, 1957.
“I’ve got nothing but good fond memories of being in high school,” said Wanda Kemp, 1958. “Every year was a good year.”
