Horsemen dominate Rattlers

St. Michael’s scored early in Saturday’s match against the Tucumcari Rattlers. And the Horsemen kept up the pace. The Rattlers lost 40-7.
“Our kids fought back,” said Rattler coach Dub Smith.
The Rattlers, who were hoping to avenge last’s year 41-14 defeat, made some mistakes, said Smith.
There were several fumbles by the Rattlers and quaterback sacks by St. Mike’s leading to turnovers.
The team had the ball within the 20-yard line more than once, but “they didn’t take advantage to score,” Smith said.
Tucumcari’s lone touchdown came on a pass to Mike Fazekas from quarterback Andres Apodaca.
“Our kids fought back and we’re going to be a good team,” with some playing time, said Smith. The Rattlers, who have four new starters in the backfield, are gaining experience with each game, Smith said.
To be down “like we were, they fought back and I think that’s indicative of their character,” Smith said.
