The Lady Rattlers started their volleyball season with a loss Thursday to the Elida Tigers.

The Rattlers lost in three sets to the Tigers, 10-25, 11-25 and 17-25.

In the third set the Rattlers began to limit the Tigers ace scoring with returns.. Elida served up a strong game with 17 aces combined, from sophomore Nicole Jasso and junior Janice Taylor. Taylor also had nine kills during Thursday’s sets.

In the first two sets, the Lady Rattlers had some communication problems that were apparent in their defensive ball coverage. Rattlers sophomore Mariah Meier had several strong digs to keep the ball in play and sophomore Ashley Lopez scored three kills during the matches.

“We are very pleased with how the girls played,” said coach Tony Alarcon. “We had some communication flaws that showed in our coverage but they played as a team. They showed a lot of promise and this game was a great way for us to see what we need to work on.”
