In the first eight months of this year there have been three homicides in Tucumcari.
It is the most homicides in any given year between 1997 and 2006, according to the most recent statistics available from the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.
The stabbing homicide of Lucy Vigil, 46, on Wednesday was the third homicide in Quay County. Vigil’s husband, Eppie Vigil has been charged with the open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He is in the Quay County Detention Center and no bond has been set.
From 1997 to 2006, there were five homicide deaths in Quay County, according to the OMI’s 2006 Annual Report released earlier this year.
Two homicide deaths occurred in 1999 and one each in 1998, 2000 and 2004, according to the report.
In addition to the slaying of Lucy Vigil on Wednesday in 2007, Tucumcari’s other two homicides were:
l Albert Jason Pacheco who was shot on Feb. 1 on Main Street.
l Tiffany Throckmorton who was shot on April 24 at her residence on E. High Street.
