A female motel worker was found dead this morning at a Tucumcari motel on First Street, New Mexico State Police said.

“We are investigating a homicide,” said Lt. Cleo Baker. The woman was an employee of the Microtel Inn on First Street, he said.

Officers were stationed around the motel late this morning. “We’re waiting for the Crime Scene Unit to get here,” Baker said.

It is believed the homicide occurred between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday, Baker said.

Another motel worker and Tucumcari Police Lt. Patti Lopez found the victim, Baker said.

Police would not release the victim’s name or any other details about the homicide.

It is the fourth homicide this year in Tucumcari.

• Lucy Vigil was slain Aug. 29 at her home.
