The 2A Tucumcari Lady Rattlers lost in three to the 1A San Jon Lady Coyotes Thursday night.
It was the first win of the season for the Lady Coyotes with a sweep against the Lady Rattlers. The Lady Coyotes took the matches 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20.
The Lady Coyotes are now 1-4, and the Lady Rattlers are now 1-5,
“We have been improving from the first game and that really showed tonight,” said Lady Coyotes coach Tonya Davis. “The girls combined a great attitude with skills and played very well tonight.”
The Lady Rattlers gave up several points from long serves and holes in coverage. In the first two sets, the Lady Coyotes took an early lead and held it till victory. In the third set the Rattlers jumped out to an early lead but fell short by giving up points from long serves or miss directed hits.
“We played flat tonight,” said Lady Rattlers coach Tony Alarcon. “We played well against House on Tuesday and we just had a breakdown in coverage tonight. We gave up a lot of points in tonight’s game. But we are going to work on better coverage and practice harder to prepare for district play”

lThe Lady Coyotes starts district play at 5 p.m. Thursday against the Clovis Christian Lady Eagles at San Jon.
l The Lady Rattlers start district play at 1 p.m. Saturday against the Clayton Lady Yellowjackets at Clayton.
l The Logan Lady Longhorns will play at 6 p.m. Thursday against the Mosquero Lady Pirates at Mosquero.
l The House Cowgirls will play at 5 p.m. Tuesday against the Mosquero Lady Pirates at House.
