The Quay County teams will be playing in the annual Melrose Volleyball Tournament.
The San Jon Lady Coyotes (1-6) will play first at 9 a.m. against the Floyd Lady Broncos.
The winner of that match will move on to play at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of Santa Rosa vs Eunice.
The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers (2-10) will play at 10:30 a.m. against the Grady Lady Bronchos.
The winner of that match will move on to play at 1 p.m., against the winner of Dora vs Melrose.
“We want to come away from this tournament gaining some positive experience,” said Rattlers coach Tony Alarcon.
“It will be good for the team to play against a variety of offense and defense. We should be able to utilize the experience for district play,” Alarcon said.
“We are working a lot better as a team,” said Rattlers junior Kaitlin Lopez. “Only two of us had varsity playing experience. This year we all have played and learned together and we can use that experience.”
“The older players have helped me so much,” said freshman Laura Fought. “My playing has improved a lot since last year. They have given me great advice and are always real supportive.
The House Cowgirls (1-9) will play at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Clovis Christian Lady Eagles.
The Cowgirls will be the third Quay County team to play the Lady Eagles. The Lady Coyotes lost to the Lady Eagles in three set on Sept.. 28 at San Jon and the Logan Lady Longhorns were swept Tuesday night at Clovis Christian 25-14, 25-15, 25-16.
The Lady Longhorns will play at 5 p.m., Oct.11 against the Lady Eagles at Logan.
