Community Notes: Gallery and B&B opening, Arch Hurley election

San Jon Carnival
San Jon School and community are gearing up for their carnival. The theme this year will be “Battler of the Holidays.”
Events throughout carnival week include:
Elementary School bake sales from Oct. 15-18 at breakfast and lunch.
Oct. 11, raffle sales begin.
Oct. 18, parade
Oct. 19, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., carnival time. 8:30 p.m. Coronation & Raffle drawing. Events at Ed Lee Complex.

Holiday closings
Closings for the Columbus Holiday on Monday are:
All Quay County U.S. Post Offices: Tucumcari, Logan, San Jon, House and McAlister.
Banks: Citizens Bank, Everyone’s Federal Credit Union and First National Bank of New Mexico in Tucumcari and Logan are closed.
District Court: The 10th Judicial Court is closed Monday, including the District Attorney’s, Clerk’s and Judge Donald Schutte’s offices.
Banks, schools and government offices that will be open on Monday:
l Wells Fargo Bank in Tucumcari will be open .
l Quay County Schools will have their regular classes on Monday.
l Wells Fargo Bank in Tucumcari will be open.

Artists opening gallery …
Artists Sharon and Doug Quarles are re-opening Gallery 111 and are opening a Bed and Breakfast at 307 E. High St. The grand opening will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Also entertainment by the Bluegrass band will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Store to re-open in ’07 …
“It will open on the first of the year or sooner,” Rhonda Kandel, Family Dollar store manager, said.
Workers are waiting on the store to be cleaned out and refurbished, she said. The store on West Tucumcari Boulevard at Third Street was closed after a fire on July 15.
Since the store has been closed, Kandel has been working at the Family Dollar store in Santa Rosa, she said.
The neighboring store, the Movie Gallery, which sustained smoke damage, reopened last month.

Arch Hurley elections …
The Arch Hurley Conservancy District is holding elections of board members from 7a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
There are three positions up for re-election. However, only position 2 in Precinct 1 is contested. In that election incumbent David Foote is being challenged by Pablo Lopez.
Uncontested are Tommy Bruhn in Precinct 3 and John Gilbertson in Precinct 2.
