Tucumcari’s own Abel Cullum will make his King of The Cage debut today in Albuquerque.

Cullum, a five-time defending Desert Xtreme junior bantam weight champion and a two-time defending South West Fury light weight champion, will fight Eddie Alvarez to be ranked as the number one contender for the KOTC light weight championship.

“It is a great honor to fight in this event,” said Cullum. “This will be my official professional debut. King of the Cage holds twice as many events as UFC.”

The original fight card had Cullum fighting against a Richard Montano in the KOTC event. Montano was in a car accident and was not able to fight and Alvarez was moved up in the rankings.

Cullum has many hometown sponsors, including Leif Gray of Quality Lube and Tire.

“As a sponsor I help with the expenses that come from equipment and uniforms,” Gray said. “At Abel’s fight in Oklahoma he wore my business’s shirt into the ring.”

Cullum said he is appreciative of all the support he has received from the community and his sponsors.

“It would be very difficult without their support,” he said.
