Donald Gordon Strope

Services: At 2 p.m. Monday services will be at the San Jon Cemetery in San Jon.

Donald Gordon Strope, 51, of Tucumcari died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 at his daughter’s home in Portales.

Mr. Strope was born May 23, 1956 in Waverly, N.Y, to Alice and Robert G. Strope. He came to New Mexico as a boy, and grew up in Tucumcari.  On Jan. 4, 1980 he was married to Shirley Fisk in Tucumcari. For a number of years he worked at the Tucumcari Truck Terminal as a fuel attendant. He had also worked at an Allsup’s store in Portales for about five years. 

He was an avid reader of history and science fiction. He was a very talented artist, who particularly liked to draw cars, his family said. 
He is survived by a son, Kenneth Myers of Portales; a daughter, Kristy (Fred) Hamner of Portales; three grandchildren, Buddy and Dakota Myers and Nathan Andrade; his mother, Alice Strope of Tucumcari;  a brother, Jackie Strope of Clovis; and two sisters, Mary Moran of Clovis and Bonnette Rivera of Tucumcari.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Strope and by his wife, Shirley, who died Feb. 28, 1999.

J. R. “Dick” Ross will officiate at the services.
