MCC Rodeo Team cinches $32,500 in scholarships

Thirteen of the 38 students on the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team have received $32,500 (total) in fall semester scholarships from the Rodeo Council and Gov. Bill Richardson’s Rodeo Initiative, according to a press release from the college.
Recipients are Frank Alguire, Tara Archibeque, Mike Bates, Jayson Cloud, Dominic Coche, Chaez Coley, Tamara Drake, Jacob Finch, Laramie Holquin, Brandon Jones, Eric Martinez, Kerneil Nih and Andy Stainsby.
Qualifications for the scholarship are that the student must be a New Mexico resident, be a member in good standing with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and carry a 2.0 Grade Point Average or better.
Two of the scholarship recipients are doing well in the arena as well. Bull rider, Dominic Coche presently is in second place in the Grand Canyon Region and holds the number 23 place in national standings. Mike Bates is in fourth place in the Grand Canyon Region in steer wrestling.
