Community Notes: Tucumcari’s 100th, tree sale, Rose Pacheco’s 86th

Tucumcari’s centennial
to be celebrated next year
Tucumcari will be celebrating its 100th birthday next year.
In preparation for the festivistives, Ron Wilmot, director of the Tucumcari Convention Center, has been appointed chair of the centennial events committee by the city.
Wilmot said planning and organizational meetings will be announced in January.

Birthday celebrations
for Rose Pacheco set
The Pacheco family invites family and friends to join with them in celebrating Rosalia “Rose” Pacheco’s birthday. Celebrations are on Saturday at: 10 a.m. for a mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church; 4 p.m. for a dinner at the VFW Post 2528; and 8 p.m. Saturday for a dance at the VFW Post 2528.

Officers move to other enforcement agencies
The Tucumcari Police Department has lost two officers. Officer Shane Strand has joined the Quay County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Pedro Bolin has joined the Logan Police Department, according to recent report by the TPD to the Tucumcari City Commission.

Orders for tree sale begins today
The Canadian River Soil and Water Conservation District begins its 2008 Tree Sale today. Order forms may be picked up at 706 So. First St., Room 102. Orders must be placed by Jan. 31, 2008. This year there will not be any extra trees, organizers said. A 50 percent deposit is required on all orders.
Dance in the New Year
The VFW Post # 2528 will have a New Year’s Eve Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight featuring the band, the Los Blue Ventures from Fairview. $20 for couples, $10, stag. Party favors will be available. The VFW Post # 2528, 105 East Main St. Call 461-3061.
