Wes Stewart, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, will be celebrating his 20th anniversary as pastor of the church. Friends and members of the church are invited to join in the celebration at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Temple Baptist, 124 W. Aber St.
The State Bar of New Mexico is accepting entries from high school juniors and seniors from around the state for its annual essay contest.
This year’s topic is “The Lost Payload,” which deals with the constitutional rights of students as those rights affect, or are affected by, zero tolerance policies.
Thoughtful essays expressing personal points of view will be accepted until March 10. Essays are limited to 1,500 words and will be judged by a panel of judges, lawyers and journalists.
Initial cash awards are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. Winners will receive their awards at the annual Law Day Luncheon on May 1.
Students may obtain information on the topic and an entry form through their high school language arts or social studies teachers or online at www.nmbar.org.

Wilhemina Martin, the new executive director of the Tucumcari Housing Authority, began her new position on Tuesday.
Most recently from Phoenix, Ariz., Martin said she sold her business, Pepperdine Realty, to move back to Logan and to be near family.

If you know what you are at risk for, then you can make changes in your environment or lifestyle to reduce your risk. “Building Your Family Health History Tree” will be presented at the Tucumcari Senior Citizens’ Center at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, the House Senior Citizens’ Center at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 and at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 at the Logan Senior Citizens’ Center.
