A routine traffic stop Sunday netted almost 24 pounds of marijuana, the first drug seizure in 2008 for the Tucumcari Police Department.
Gabrielle Tillman, 34, of Tucson, Ariz., was arrested Sunday morning for concealing her identity from officers, said Tucumcari Sgt. Darrick Shaw.
Tillman was pulled over for a speeding violation on South First Street. Tillman gave a name and date of birth, which did not match a driver’s license that was later given to officers in the traffic stop, Shaw said.
The vehicle that Tillman was driving was registered to Budget Rent A Car. Officials of the Budget Rent A Car office in Arizona were contacted and requested that the vehicle be impounded, Shaw said.
A vehicle inventory was conducted and the marijuana was found hidden in luggage in the trunk, Shaw said.
Tillman was charged with one felony count of distribution of marijuana. If convicted Tillman could face up to three years in jail, Shaw said.
Tillman is being held at the Quay County Detention Center on $10,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned this week.
