Jean Grotts of Tucumcari will be the first featured artist in a series of monthly shows planned by the Eastern New Mexico Art Space Gallery, said Connie Falls, gallery coordinator.
Grotts has lived in Tucumcari since 1998. She began drawing and painting as a child, and sold her first artwork when she was in grade school in Michigan. She later studied art at Wayne State University in Detroit.
Some of her art is in private collections in Michigan, New York, Texas and New Mexico. She is also a member of the Roswell Fine Arts League and the New Mexico Miniature Art Society.
She moved to Tucumcari from Michigan and said she fell in love with New Mexico’s enchanting colors; and that she enjoys translating these colors into works that range from pastels to watercolors to pencil and acrylic.
Some of these works will be on view at an opening reception at 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The reception is open to the public and all are invited.
Works by Grotts will be on exhibit through February at the Art Space Gallery, 201 S. Second St. For more information call 461-8520.
