Filing dates set for Quay County candidates

The following are the guidelines and fees for running for Quay County political offices, according to the Quay County Clerk.

l Candidates for County Commissioner Districts 1 and 2 – (4 yr term); Quay County Treasurer ( 4 yr term); Quay County Clerk – (4 yr term) must file their Declarations of Candidacy between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on March 18 at the Quay County Clerk’s Office, 300 South Third St., Tucumcari.

There is only one filing day.

l The filing fee for county offices is $50 and is to be paid at the time of filing the Declaration of Candidacy. Candidates, who are unable to pay the filing fee, may file a Pauper’s Statement in lieu of the filing fee.

l Candidates seeking election for the position of District Attorney and District Judge – in Judicial District 10; State Senator, District 7; or State Representative – District 67 are required to file a petition in addition to their Declaration of Candidacy with the Secretary of State on March 18. Petition forms may be obtained from the County Clerk’s Office.

l Candidates will draw for ballot positions at 5 p.m. on March 18 at the Quay County County Clerk’s Office.
