Family Dollar set to re-open Thursday

After a year’s hiatus, the Family Dollar store will re-open at 9 a.m. Thursday, store officials said.

The store at Third and Main streets closed in July 2007 after sustaining damage from a fire. The neighboring store, the Movie Gallery, sustained smoke damage and reopened several months after the fire. No one was injured in the fire.

“The store has a new look. It has a new design. It’s more a more friendly shoppable store,” said Rich Nagel, senior project supervisor, who is in charge of opening the new store.

“It’s an easier store to shop. There are more open aisles and there’s a bigge rselection of Bugle Boy clothing,” Nagel said.

“Workers, with no retail background, have really come together as a team,” Nagel said.

Eleven workers, in addition to Nagel and another store opener, and local store manager Ronda Kandel and assistant store manager Stacie Lucero have been stocking shelves and readying the displays for shoppers, Nagel said.

Kandel and Lucero said they are happy to be back at the Tucumcari store.

“For a year, we’ve been commuting to the store in Santa Rosa,” Kandel said.

On Saturday, the store will have its grand opening with drawings and prizes for shoppers, Nagel said. The ribbon-cutting will be at 10 a.m.
