The Quay County Sheriff’s Office arrested two male suspects for trafficking marijuana at 7:50 a.m. on Monday, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Mark Dahlsten stopped Stanley Bishop, 40, from Phoenix, Ariz., and IIlan Davis, 25, also from Phoenix, for following too closely and failing to stop at a stop sign, the release said.

At the traffic stop it was also discovered that Bishop was driving on a suspended license, according to the release.

During the traffic stop, Dahlsten said he noticed a strong odor of marijuana, that led him to believe they were transporting drugs in the car.
The vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Caravan that was rented in Phoenix, was searched after both individuals gave their consent. The Tucumcari Police Department’s K9 Bond alerted to the vehicle and a search warrant was sought and issued, the release stated.
