Crash investigators are still trying to determine which of two vehicles involved in a fatal head-on collision Wednesday night was driving in the wrong lane, according to State Police Lt. Gary Ross.
Three Clovis men were killed about 5 p.m. when two vehicles crashed in the southbound lane of N.M. 209 north Clovis near Curry Road 21.
Sergio Mendoza-Ortega, 21, the only survivor, was airlifted from the scene to a Lubbock Hospital.
Mendoza-Ortega told the CNJ on Thursday he was OK, but a language barrier prohibited further questioning.
Carlos Bustillos, 26, and Jaime Bustillos, 20, passengers in Mendoza-Ortega’s vehicle, were killed in the crash.
Charlie Sims, 89, the driver of the other vehicle, was also killed.
Police have said one of the vehicles was traveling south on 209 and the other was traveling north in the southbound lane.
Police have also said they want to talk to another driver who prior to the crash was forced to take evasive action because of the vehicle traveling the wrong way.
Ross said experts are evaluating the scene in an effort to determine which vehicle was traveling in the wrong lane.
