The Tucumcari Post Office has put out a special mailbox for children wanting to get their letters to Santa at the North Pole.

Tucumcari Postmaster Robert Roark said he had the old-fashioned box for several years and wanted to put in on display for children at Chirstimas.

Enter local artist Connie Falls, and she spiffed up the old mailbox with snowflakes and signage that reads: “Santa Letters.”

Alex Garcia, 4, was one of the first to use the box. Among the items he has requested from Santa are the “Spiderwick Chronicles” and anything to do with football.

Garcia said he had been good all year, and hoped to get many of the items on his list.

Meanwhile at Tucumcari Elementary School 200 first and second graders put on a holiday pageant at the Tucumcari Auditorium Thursday night for family and friends.

Included in their stage performance was a ribbon dance. The colors of Christmas was cooridnated by music teacher Mary Gallatin.
