Suspect pleads not guilty in assualt case of man, 76

Bobby Vandiver, 22, plead not guilty Wednesday to three felony charges at his arraignment in Quay County Magistrate Court.

Vandiver is charged with hitting, and kicking 76-year-old Joe Sandoval in the head to rob him of $5.

Vandiver requested an attorney and a trial by jury. He is in the Quay County Detention Center on $100,000 cash-only bond.

Vandiver was arrested on Sunday and was initially held at QCDC on $25,000 cash-only bond.

Sandoval was transported on Sunday to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital for his injuries. He was transferred on Thursday to a different hospital for rehabilitation, said Elizabeth Brophy, Trigg spokesperson.
