A 27-year-old Hispanic man from Tucumcari was hit and killed by a train sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The man’s name is not being released until his next of kin have been notified, said Police Chief Roger Hatcher.
The man had a cell phone and he is known to have made a call at 12:02 a.m., Hatcher said.
His body was found on the tracks behind the old Tucumcari train depot and police were notified at 9 a.m. Sunday, Hatcher said.
Based on the accident scene, the man was standing upright between the rails when he got hit, Hatcher said.
The man was from Grants and was living in Tucumcari.
The accident victim’s girlfriend lives in Tucumcari, and she is notifying the man’s family, Hatcher said.
