The Tucumcari City Council will hold an executive session Thursday to discuss an independent investigation of a recent Taser shooting involving Tucumcari Police Chief Roger Hatcher.

City officials received findings from the investigation on Tuesday, said City Manager Bobbye Rose.

Rose said additional information from the investigation is expected in the next few days.

“I will discuss the findings of the report with the commissioners in executive session,” Rose said. “Disciplinary action against Chief Hatcher may or may not be taken.”

Rose said the Albuquerque-based Robert Caswell Investigations firm was assigned to investigate the July 2 Taser-dart shooting of a Tucumcari teen.

The goal of the investigation is to determine whether any policies were violated and whether excessive force was used, city officials have said.

Rose has said the city wants to “get a fair and independent opinion” regarding the incident.

The City Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Other items on Thursday’s agenda include:

• Final reading and voting of an ordinance proposing an 8 percent water rate increase

• Resolution for a New Mexico Youth Conservation Corp Application

• Resolution for opposition to New Mexico Department of Public Education rule change regarding Pledge of Allegiance in schools

• Engineering contracts with Tucumcari Wastewater Treatment Facility and Tucumcari Water Trust Board Reuse Project.
