Tucumcari and area residents can get into the holiday spirit this weekend at the Tucumcari’s Chamber of Commerce 20th annual Parade of Lights and Christmas lights contest.
Events start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the Parade of Lights, said Tom Dominguez, event chairman.
Dominguez said Santa will kick off the event at the Gazebo in Kvol’s Park. He said the Parade of lights begins at 6 p.m.
“This is my first year in charge of the events,” Dominguez said. “We will be taking entries for the parade until Saturday. There is no fee to enter and prizes will be given out to the top two places.”
There are three categories for the parade float entries. Categories include religious, Christmas (general) and recreational, said Bob Beaulieu, executive director TCOC.
“I think this year’s parade will better then last years,” Beaulieu said.
Some of the area agencies participating this year are the Girl Scouts and Quay County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention.
Dominguez said during the weekend judges will be out looking at home and business decorations for the Christmas lights contest.
