Press release: Winter storm warning issued until Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow…which is in effect from 5 p.m. this afternoon to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

• Snow accumulations…snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches below 7,500 feet can be expected with 6 to 12 inches above 7,500 feet.

Locally higher amounts will be possible at the highest peaks.

• Timing…snow will increase in coverage area and intensity by early evening. Moderate to locally heavy snow will be possible tonight before gradually tapering off during Tuesday morning.

• Winds…shifting into the east at 10 to 20 mph.

• Snow levels…temperatures will be cold enough for snow across the entire area.

•Local impacts…snow covered roads and reduced visibilities can be expected especially in areas of moderate to heavy snow and fog. Areas of blowing and drifting snow are possible…leading to hazardous travel conditions.
