Tucumcari’s newest day care is set to open its doors on April 5.
Dana and Patrick Benavidez of Portales have partnered with Daniel Gonzales and Liz Esquibel of Tucumcari to open Tucumcari Children’s Haven at 714 W. Route 66.
Teambuilders, at 302 E. Tucumcari Blvd., also provides public day care.
The new day care will operate from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and will serve children ages 2-to-12.
“We want to offer the working families of Tucumcari our services,” Dana Benavidez said. “We also want to see Tucumcari grow and adding a new business will help to do that.”
Dana Benavidez said they will be accepting applications for full-time children only. She said they have 10 children enrolled with 15 spots still open.
“We want to increase the number of children we can serve in the future,” she said. “Right now we just want to get the business going.”
“Any new business opening in Tucumcari is good news,” said Bobbye Rose, city manager.
Rose said the day-care opening is a good sign that people are returning to Tucumcari and opening businesses.
Dana Benavidez said an open house is planned for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
“This will give parents a chance to come in and talk with us and look at what we have to offer,” she said. “We will be providing a variety of learning experiences.”
Dana Benavidez said the day care will provide meals.
She has operated Portales Children’s Haven for two years and said she has nine years of child-care experience and an early childhood teaching degree.
“The morning setting of the day care will be more like pre-school,” Benavidez said. “I really believe in early childhood education. The sooner you start with a child the better.”
