“61 Hours” by Lee Child. After a brief stop in New York City, Jack Reacher is on a tour bus on which he bummed a ride. When the bus skids off the road and crashes, Reacher finds himself in Bolton, S.D., a tiny burg with big problems.

“Dead in the Family” by Charlain Harris. After enduring torture and the loss of loved ones during the brief but deadly Faery War, Sookie Stackhouse is hurt and she’s angry.

“The Lake Shore Limited” by Sue Miller. Four people are bound together by the Sept. 11 death of a man.

“Shoot to Thrill” by P.J. Tracy. With murders around the country being posted online by killers who leave no trail, the FBI is reduced to asking civilian hackers for help.

“One Good Dog” by Susan Wilson. The book tells the story of Adam March, a Boston man recovering from the shame of a foolish crime, and Chance, a scrappy pit bull mix trying to escape the illegal dogfight circuit.
